The top 15 competitors in both the sporter and precision category will compete in the Legion’s Junior 3-Position Air Rifle National Championships in Colorado.

The American Legion's 26th annual Junior 3-Position Air Rifle National Championships gets underway July 19 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The top 15 shooters in both the precision and sporter category will compete at the Olympic Training Center.

The competitors will stand shoulder-to-shoulder, shooting a .177 caliber air rifle in three positions: prone, standing and kneeling. The top eight shooters in both categories will be finalized July 22 and advance to the championship round July 23, which starts at 9 a.m. Mountain Time.

One competitor will win the championship title in each respective category, along with a $5,000 college scholarship provided by the Legion and Sons of The American Legion. A $1,000 scholarship, provided by the Auxiliary, will be awarded to the second-place finisher in each category.

The precision and sporter champion will attend The American Legion’s national convention in Cincinnati from Aug. 26-30 and be honored alongside other Legion youth program champions.
