Legionnaires encouraged to help in establishment of March 3 as day for honoring the national anthem.

Legion family members are encouraged to help in the establishment and promotion of an annual day of observance for “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Last October the Legion’s National Executive Committee passed Resolution 48 (http://www.legion.org/documents/resolutions/2011F048.pdf), which, among other recommendations, calls for promoting the establishment of March 3 of each year as a national day of observance for “The Star Spangled Banner.”

In order to assist in this endeavor, The American Legion Public Relations Divisions has made available several online resources. A sample “Star Spangled Banner” Day proclamation (http://www.legion.org/prmedia/word/Proclamation%20March%203%20NA%20Day.doc) is available, as is a letter to the editor for media dissemination (http://www.legion.org/prmedia/word/Post%20Letterhead.doc) and a list of suggested activities for March 3 (http://www.legion.org/prmedia/word/Suggested%20Star%20Spangled%20Banner%20and%20Other%20Patriotic%20Activities.doc).
