DoL will provide more than $9 million to veterans looking to gain workplace skills.

The Department of Labor (DoL) has announced it is funding 22 grants totaling more than $9 million to provide approximately 4,000 veterans with job training. The grants are being awarded under DoL's Veterans Workforce Investment Program. State and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and non-profit organizations will receive the funding and will be given it for a second and third year, as long as they can demonstrate that their first-year funding was effective and adequately serving their geographic areas and population.

The Veterans Workforce Investment Program emphasizes training for veterans who are interested in "green" jobs that are currently available in the marketplace or expected to be soon. Such jobs include those related to energy efficiency and renewable energy, modern electric power development and clean vehicles. Grantees under this program coordinate their efforts with various local, state and federal social service providers.
